The building immediately on the right of the picture is known as La Rose Rouge (The Red Rose) at no.17 Rue Lejamptel. Dol is a Breton term meaning “low and fertile place in the flood plain of a waterway” and comes from the Welsh word “dol” which means meadow. Dol-de-Bretagne is reputed to be the birthplace of the Stuarts, the monarchs of Scotland and England were initially from Brittany.
