The stunning grey-blue half-timbered building is one of over 130 timber-framed medievalbuildings in Dinan. Many of these date from the 15th century, this particular building was listed as a Historical Monument on December 4, 1961.

Half-timbered houses, many of which are listed as Historical Monuments, still border the square of Place des Merciers. This was the focal point of the medieval quarter where all the lanes merged that housed all the Middle Ages craftsmen. Many ancient lanes still bear the name of trades such as Rue de la Poissonnerie (fishmongers), Rue de la Lainerie (weavers), Rue de la Ferronnerie (iron-mongers), Rue de la Larderie (meat sellers), Rue de la Mittrie (dairy) and Rue du Petit-Pain (bakers).

P.S. On June 22nd 2019, two months after the Notre Dame fire, this building was also ravaged by fire.The local council has approved its rebuild and forecast to be completed by 2025.
